The vinegar in your laundry trick? It’s actually inspired by something dry cleaners use: laundry sour! A highly acidic rinse we add at the end of a wash (wet cleaning) to clear out leftover detergent and minerals that can leave clothes stiff.
Vinegar (just 5% acetic acid) is a gentler version, probably adapted by a clever dry cleaner for home use.
If you’re looking for something stronger than vinegar but safer than sour, products like Downy Rinse & Refresh or Tide Boost use this same science.
Just to clarify: these aren’t fabric softeners. They don’t coat your clothes, they clean them better, so your fabrics feel naturally soft again.

These branded products are an absolute waste of money and just more plastic. Tried them and no difference to my laundry.
Wait so. I need this not laundry sanitizer?? I dont really deal with stinky clothes, it feels like my clothes feel cleaner when i use the sanitizer 😂 like a texture not just a feeling inside me lmaoo
But i also use a splash of high acidic vinegar, oxiclean, scent beads and detergent in every load 🤣
What about OdoBan as a rinse?
I wish Tide or Downy made an unscented option! I have used vinegar rinse for 20 years.
Could we just put citic acid powder into the fabric softener cup?
We don’t have this stuff in Europe, citric acid is a great substitute.
