These common baby toys provide no developmental benefits and may even lead to developmental delays when over-used.
Despite being found in many homes, and often being promoted as developmentally beneficial, these toys don’t actually help your little one in any way. Often because they limit movement and hold your baby in a single position for extended periods of time they can potentially lead to developmental delays.
Some of these toys even hold our babies in positions that are know to increase the risk of them developing hip dysplasia and other developmental conditions.
In addition to that, there have been cases where babies have been injured when using these toys. Some even suffering serious injuries like skull fractures.

Not long ago, I saw a baby backpack advertised on FB. There was a cushioned headrest, and I think the ‘pack’ was actually a cushion too. The blurb said it gave babies the confidence to walk, because they would not be frightened of falling. If it frightened anyone, it would be people who actually believed the ridiculous AI film of babies constantly falling backwards but being ‘saved’ by the bb. If someone asked me, ‘Should I buy this?’, I’d ask , ‘Have you seen a real baby when they start to walk? When they fall, they actually go into a squat, landing on their butts, which are usually padded with a diaper. Then they get up and try again, with no sign of distress.’
Our son learned to walk using the gate of his playpen, by cruising on it. We only started putting him into the walker when he stopped standing on his toes and started standing with a flat foot. It’s great for keeping him from falling over and knocking his head. We only use it for maybe 30min a day or when he is demanding to be let out of his playpen to free roam, but we also have to multi task with other things (usually prepping meals or laundry, which is in our kitchen(. But we made our open plan living space very baby proof by removing everything unsafe for him from off the shelves, and replaced them with some of his toys so he has areas he is allowed to freely access. All doors to other rooms are close led whenever he is out and about.
your plant is sad
My older sister had a baby-walker. One day, while my mom was making dinner and also taking care of me as a newborn, my sister “drove” her walker down the stairs. She was incredibly lucky though, and didn’t get seriously hurt. A few bruises and cuts from the plastic parts. But the ER doctor said, it’s probable that the walker took the brunt of the damage. She luckily didn’t have any head injury.
P.S.There was a gate at the stairs… But my sister managed to open it. She was very clever from very early on, and later tested 146 in an IQ test.
